Over the last two weekends, 12 DO Conca de Barberà wineries took center stage at “El Mercat” Wine and Cava Festival. 22,000 tasting pours were served, exceeding last year’s total. Attendees had the unique opportunity to taste exceptional DO Conca de Barberà wines and chat with winemakers about their craft.
Sales of souvenir wine glasses totaled 6,500, proving that “El Mercat” has earned its place on the wine lover’s calendar.
One of the most highly anticipated events of Montblanc Medieval Week, “El Mercat” showcases DO Conca de Barberà while honoring our region’s medieval history.
Thousands of people descend on the festival hoping to taste the wide variety of wine and cava produced here in the Conca de Barberà region.
The festival’s pleasant ambiance and an increasingly sophisticated public were the perfect ingredients to turn Montblanc Medieval Week into a celebration of DO Conca de Barberà wine.
The first Sunday of the festival happened to coincide with national legislative elections, but beautiful weather brought in a great crowd. In the first two days alone, 4,000 souvenir wine glasses were sold.
The good weather continued and the second weekend of the festival also enjoyed solid attendance.
Here at DO Conca de Barberà, we saw “El Mercat” as a great opportunity to introduce our new wine tourism initiative, the Trepat Tour Route.
Developed in conjunction with the regional tourism board, this initiative showcases Trepat, the grape variety native to Conca de Barberà. We hope to promote not only the grape but also the wineries that produce Trepat wine.
The new initiative, as well as “El Mercat” itself, is generating buzz here in Conca de Barberà as well as outside of our region.
This year, we welcomed wine lovers from Tarragona province, the Barcelona metro area, and more visitors than ever from abroad.
These guests are familiar with our wines, yet they are still surprised by how many wineries have already embraced Trepat. This grape produces wines that truly stand out in the market and those who attended “El Mercat” had the pleasure of tasting Trepat in a unique environment.
According to DO Conca de Barberà President Mariona Rendé, “Our wine pairs perfectly with a medieval festival honoring Catalonia’s patron, Saint George.
“In this setting, historical heritage, wine, and culture come together to create a robust platform on which we can promote our region’s wine and food.”
Visitors relished the opportunity to pair DO Conca de Barberà wines with traditional regional dishes, all while enjoying a lively medieval ambiance.
One guest remarked, “It’s truly a luxury to enjoy the shows and activities of Medieval Week with Conca de Barberà wines in hand.”
