The Spanish Appellation Conca de Barberà (Protected Designation of Origin, PDO) authorizes ‘Bag-in-Box' packaging
The aim is to fulfil the demands of the Nordic markets
The Regulatory Board for the Conca de Barberà, at its last plenary session of 2006, resolved to authorize the use of the ‘bag-in-box' packaging under the Conca de Barberà protected designation of origin (PDO).
The reasons for such an agreement come from the request posed by some bottling firms in order to be able to fulfil the demand of the Northern Europe markets. After a deep consideration and some determining factors the bag-in-box packaging proposal was endorsed by the committee. 8.8 UK pints are the permitted maximum size of the containers, and only for young wines. Further approaches regarding this subject will have to be first approved by the committee.
On the aforementioned session, and as a reply to some wine-growers request, was also approved the study for expanding the PDO area of production including industrial zones and plots of land from Vilanova de Prades. |
