CONCA DE BARBERA'S WINES AND CAVAS 16 th CONTEST
The Wines and Cavas XVI 16 th Contest took place on Thursday 20, July 2006 at Hostal del Senglar in Espluga of Francoli arranged as every year by the Regulatory Board for the Conca de Barbera protected designation of origin (PDO) and the Conca de Barbera's wines and cava bottling association. This event is part of the Wine Harvest Ceremony which celebrates its 36 th anniversary.
The tasting committee was formed by eleven enologists from the wine-producing sector. This very year cellars participation decreased since some cooperative wine producers and in consequence their products gathered under the same registered name. The whole number of samples at the event was of 43, from which 32 corresponded to wines and 11 to cavas, all of them hold within a wide range of categories. The latest innovation of this year corresponded to three red wine categories;
- Young red wines with no wood maturation years 2004 and 2005
-
Red wines years 2001, 2002 and 2003 with no wood maturation, and
- Red wines years 2000 or earlier, where included Crianza, Reserva and Gran
Reserva
Actually and as previous years, red wines were the most attended ones. 22 rivals displayed within 3 categories.
On Saturday evening, 2 September finest wines and artisan quality goods from the countryside meet both at the 23 rd Wines and Countryside Products Trade Fair in Montserrat Canals square's showground at Espluga de Francoli , where prizes will be awarded.
