Conca de Barberà is a Catalonian region in the north of the province of Tarragona. The vine growing zone is concentrated in the region that owes its geological formation to the erosive action of the Francolí river and its inflow in Anguera. The combined action of both rivers, with the course of the millenniums, has formed the physiognomy of this part of the region into a river valley bordered with mountains: to the east, the Miramar and Cogulló mountain range; to the west, the Tallat and Vilobí mountain range; to the north, the Montclar, Codony and Comalats; and to the south, the Prades Mountains.

The vineyards supported by the designation of origin extends through the territory that integrate the following municipal terms: Barberà de la Conca, Blancafort, Conesa, l'Espluga de Francolí, Forès, Montblanc, Pira, Rocafort de Queralt, Sarral, Senan, Solivella, Vallclara, Vilaverd and Vimbodí.

The altitudes are mostly between 350 and 600 m, which conditions the wines with a fresh and light character and with a great aromatic expression.

Soils

The soils are, mostly, of lime in nature and poor in organic matter content. They can be of a clay sort with a characteristic red colour or of a loose texture and a brown coloration. In the bottom of the basin there are rain terraces.

In the extreme Southwest of the region, in the low parts of the Prades mountain slopes, there is also slate soil (llicorella).
