Conca de Barberà is a region that stands out for its great diversity in typical products that can be discovered while passing through its towns.
The hand made sausages are of high quality: longanizas (long pork sausage), butifarra (Catalan sausage), blanca (white sausage), butifarra negra (black sausage). Also well known are the breads and bakery products such as sweet cocas, the “coques de recapte”, the “cóc” and the “teules” of Santa Coloma de Queralt; the “vanos ” cones and “carquinyolis” cones from l’Espluga de Francolí; and the “foradots”, “montblanquins” and “merlets” from Montblanc. Worth mentioning is the honey from Blancafort, the cheeses from Albió, the traditional saffron from Rocafort de Queralt and the chestnuts from Vilanova de Prades. Olive oil and almonds from the agricultural co-operatives are also two relevant products.
The restaurants
in Conca de Barberà offer a wide variety of typical dishes that preserve the gastronomy inherited generation after generation. During the first months of the year, we can enjoy the “calçotada”, originally from the neighbour region of l’Alt Camp. The ideal accompaniment of the Conca de Barberà cuisine are the wines and cavas that are elaborated here. |
