| The Conca de Barberà Designation of Origin, supported by its regulating council, nowadays has 6,000 hectares of vineyards and a production average of 250,000 hl of wine.
The first Conca de Barberà D.O. Regulations and its regulating council was approved by Order of November 19th, 1985 of the Department of Agriculture, Ramaderia i Pesca of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which was later modified by the Order of September 29th, 1989. The Minister of Agriculture, Fishing and Foods rectified the above mentioned regulations, in effect for its defence by the Central State Administration in the national and international fields, by Order of December 14th, 1989.
The main function of the Regulating Council consists in controlling grape production, wine elaboration and its commercialisation, with the goal to guarantee the consumer its geographic origin and the quality of the wines that are put on the market with a Designation of Origin from Conca de Barberà. At the same time, represent and protect the Designation of Origin of Conca de Barberà and it is also in charge of the promotion of its wines.
