History
Co-operativism in Sarral was born in 1907 under the name of Agricultural Union. Afterwards, in 1914 another entity was constituted with the name of Wine-growers Union and in 1959 they joined to make the Wine-growers Co-operative of today.
The winery, work of Pere Domènech i Roura, is a clear exponent of modernist buildings.
The men of Sarral founded what is today one of the most important wine grower co-operatives of Conca de Barberà and Catalonia. With the rebirth of the vineyards, after the attack of the phylloxera plague, new varieties were planted: parellada, macabeo, ull de llebre (tempranillo) and the native trepat, an authentic jewel that is only found in Conca de Barberà
Today’s needs of a continued improvement of the elaboration process of wine have made the old installations to house the most sophisticated oenological technology, maintaining its original architecture.
In 1980, the Sarral Co-operative begins the commercialisation of cava and wines that, until then, were limited to its members. In 1984 the first technological modernisation began. Since then, each year we invest in an improvement of quality and constant investigation project.
Today, the wines and cavas of the Sarral Co-operative compete in international markets. The exports grow annually, mainly directed towards countries of the EU. This is why every day in the hearts of the vine growers of Sarral an illusion is born: that of continuously improving their work to achieve the highest quality in their musts.
