History

The Rendé family’s wine producing vocation has its roots in an ancient and consolidated tradition. The continued dedication to vine growing and the elaboration of wines can be documented as far back as 1604. Originally from Villa del Catlar, our branch moved to l'Espluga de Francolí in the middle of the XIX Century and extended its heritage, with family ties, through Cabra del Camp and Figuerola.

The grandfather, Josep M. Rendé i Ventosa, was a leader of the Catalonian agricultural regeneration. From his post as chief of the Social Agrarian Action Service of the Catalonian County Council and professor of the Agricultural School, he encouraged the creation of co-operative wineries, with the collaboration of architects such as César Martinell and Domènech i Muntaner. Today, some of these buildings are of great monumental value.

Surely we are very far from the old consideration of wines of being a simple ingredient of daily feeding or as venom of a tragic life.We have been refining its consumption until acquiring the need to appreciate it for its complex values, harmony and difference. It is no longer enough that the wine is good, it is necessary to appreciate that it is different as well.

Loyal to the family emblem that “good wine only comes from a good vine”, the vineyards, must transformations and wine harvests are well cared for. The handmade control of a limited production allows us to obtain distinguished wines and guarantee high quality always. RENDÉ MASDÉU interprets its wine culture as an artistic activity which characterises its personality over the pillars of tradition and the constant investigation to improve and consolidate one of the pleasures of good taste.

The Josep M. and Joan Rendé Masdéu brothers have modernised the family heritage and its vineyards. It has specialised in the production of high demand wines, mostly reds, elaborated with CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MERLOTand SYRAH grapes, and with them being a part of the old prestige of the Conca de Barberà wines.

L’Espluga de Francolí has various tourist attractions that complement the winery visits. It is important to add that we can find the Museo del Vino, integrated within the same installations of the Co-operative. The Museum of Rural Life and The Cova Museum of Font Major are must see places, as well as the ancient Sant Miguel church (XIII Century). As important is a visit to the Santisima Trinitat chapel and the ancient bathing zone of Les Masies.
