A product of the effort of generations of countrymen that, since the end of the XIX Century, fought to improve the agricultural economy of the region, are the modernist wineries – called “The Cathedrals of Wine” by Àngel Guimerà – that are buildings of great value within the architectural patrimony of Conca de Barberà and Catalonia.

The ideologists-builders of these “cathedrals” of the shared effort of the vine growers were the architects Pere Domènech and Cèsar Martinell. These constructions were born from their creative genius which brought together the rich mark that gothic art had left in the region and the modernity and functionality needed for their use.

Following is a list of these modernist wineries, detailing the name of the architect and the year it was built:

            Pere Domènech i Roura
1912 Celler Cooperatiu de l’Espluga de Francolí
            1914 Celler Cooperatiu de Sarral

            Cèsar Martinell i Brunet
            1917 Celler Cooperatiu de Barberà
1918 Celler Cooperatiu de Rocafort de Queralt
            1919 Celler Cooperatiu de Montblanc
            1919 Celler Cooperatiu de Pira
