Climate

Diagrama ombrotermic de Sarral

Generally speaking, the climate can be described as a Mediterranean transitional climate which ranges between the mild climate of the coastal regions of Tarragona (due to the relative proximity to the sea) and the continental climate typical of the Lérida region. The modest altitude of the Miramar mountain range and the Riba strait allow a certain influence of humid and warm coastal winds, while significant temperature inversions during winter cause frost in the lower parts of the region. Together, this makes for cold winters and moderate summers, with noticeable temperature differences between day and night.

However, the combined effects of topography and altitude contribute to the emergence of microclimates with remarkable peculiarities.

Annual rain fall amounts to 450-550 mm, with corresponding seasonal differences between autumn, spring, summer and winter.

The annual temperature average is between 13 and 14ºC, with highs in the summer that can exceed 35ºC, and lows in the winter (frequently below 0ºC). The region enjoys about 2,500 hours of sunshine a year.
