Art nouveau wineries

The modernist wineries, once described as “Cathedrals of Wine” by Àngel Guimerà, are a reflection of the efforts of generations of farmers who have been fighting to improve the region’s agricultural economy since the end of the 19th century. The buildings are of great value to the architectural heritage of Conca de Barberà and Catalonia.

The visionary builders of these veritable “cathedrals” representing the joint efforts of the wine growers were architects Pere Domènech and Cèsar Martinell. From their creative genius arose these buildings, which linked the rich mark that gothic art had left on the region with the modern and functional features required for their use.
